The fifth Global Negotiation Conference took place at the ETH Zurich from the 11-13 July 2018.

Baroness Catherine Aston
​
Having worked in the private, voluntary and public sector Catherine Ashton began her parliamentary career in the House of Lords in 1990. She went on to serve as a junior minister covering education, constitutional affairs and justice before being promoted to leader of the House of Lords by Prime Minister Gordon Brown. In October 2008 she became Trade Commissioner in the EU, the first woman British Commissioner and the first woman Trade Commissioner.

With the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty in November 2009, Catherine Ashton was appointed High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, a post she held until 2014. During this time she created the European External Action Service - a new foreign policy service operating in 140 countries - and took responsibility for the EU military missions. chaired the meetings of Foreign, Defence and Development Ministers across the EU.

Michael Ambühl
​
Michael Ambühl is a Professor of Negotiation and Conflict Management at the Department of Management, Technology, and Economics of ETH, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich and the Director of the Swiss School of Public Governance. Previously, Michael Ambühl spent over 30 years as a Swiss Diplomat where he served as State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and State Secretary in the Finance Ministry. Throughout his career, he was a member of the “Swiss-EU Bilateral I”- negotiation team, he led the negotiations of the “Swiss-EU Bilateral II”- agreements (including Schengen), he was facilitator of the Geneva Iran-P5+1 talks, and in the Armenia-Turkey Protocols, signed in Zurich in 2009. He negotiated the Swiss-US UBS-deal, the Tax treaty Switzerland-UK&Austria, the Swiss-US FATCA Agreement and the Swiss-US Tax deal.

Chia-Jung Tsay
​
Chia-Jung Tsay is an Associate Professor in the UCL School of Management. Her research examines the psychological processes that influence decision making and interpersonal perception in performance contexts. She investigates the role of expertise and nonconscious biases in professional selection and advancement. Tsay graduated Phi Beta Kappa with an A.B. in Psychology and an A.M. in History of Science from Harvard University. In other professional experience, as a classical pianist, Tsay has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the U.S. Embassy. She holds degrees from the Juilliard School and the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, where she later served as faculty. Tsay received a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior and Psychology with a secondary Ph.D. field in Music from Harvard University, and has taught at institutions including Oxford, Tsinghua, and Wharton.

Julian Caletti
​
Julian Caletti is a young professional at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) based in Geneva. Prior to this post, he worked for three years at the Information Service of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG). Julian holds a master’s degree in international affairs from the Graduate Institute Geneva and a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from the University College Maastricht. He spent a total of four years working, studying and travelling in Latin America and China and is fluent in German, English, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Mandarin Chinese.

Tobias Langenegger
​
Tobias Langenegger is lecturer and researcher at ETH Zurich. He holds a BSc and MSc degree in Environmental Sciences from ETH Zurich and completed his PhD on the modelling of conflicts and negotiations at ETH Zurich. Beside research and teaching, Tobias is involved in negotiation consulting and the development of the Negotiation Engineering concept. Before joining the Chair of Negotiation and Conflict Management he was working at the Professorship of Environmental Policy and Economics at ETH Zurich and at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Geneva.

Zabeen Mirza
​
Zabeen Mirza is the Director of US Operations at Schranner Negotiation LLC in New York. A specialist in brand innovation, Zabeen is a sought-after negotiation trainer and consultant on topics of international market entry, product development, venture capital, startup growth, and R&D cooperation. Zabeen has trained and certified over 1,500 executives through the University of Cambridge. Prior to joining Schranner, she founded and managed her own consulting firm in Dubai, where over the course of six years she worked for clients as Emirates Airlines, Aston Martin, Messe Frankfurt, the Malala Fund, and the governments of the UAE and Qatar. Zabeen began her career on Wall Street at Oppenheimer & Co. and at Bloomberg. She is currently a doctoral candidate at Anaheim University, pursuing her degree in entrepreneurship.

Jack Williams
​
Jack Williams is a Doctoral Candidate in Political Philosophy at the University of Zürich. He holds a Bachelors in Politics with International Relations and a Masters in Political, Legal and Economic Philosophy from the University of York and Bern respectively. Jack was previously a Junior Research Fellow at the Institute of European and International Economic Law at the University of Bern as well as a Summer Academy and MILE Fellow at the World Trade Institute. Jack is the Founder and President of the GNC and is responsible for the overall organisation of the conference.

Raffael Kellner
​
Raffael Kellner is the VP International of Schranner Negotiation Institute based in Zurich, New York, and Hong Kong. He leads the international expansion of the negotiation training programs in close collaboration with leading industry partners, as well as with the University of St. Gallen. Furthermore, Raffael is the head organizer of the annual Negotiation Conference in Zurich. Prior to joining the Schranner Institute, Raffael worked in digital consulting for clients in the automotive, finance, tech, and media industry, and for the liberal party NEOS in the Austrian parliament. Raffael is a member of the German Council on Foreign Relations and holds a master’s degree in management studies.
