Peter Maurer

Peter Maurer was the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) from 2012 to 2022. Prior to that, he served as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs in Switzerland from 2010 to 2012, and held the role of Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the United Nations from 2004 to 2010. He began his career in the Swiss diplomatic service in 1986, with various positions in Switzerland, South Africa and the U.S. Since leaving his role at the ICRC he has taken up numerous engagements, including serving as the President of the Board of the Basel Institute on Governance, a Member of the Advisory Council of the International Institute for Strategic Studies and a Member of the Board of Directors of Zurich Insurance.
