Kelvin Muli

IGN Fellow

Kelvin Muli supports the Institute’s “Global Negotiation Support” initiative, drawing on his expertise in navigating complex multilateral negotiations. He is also a peer reviewer for the Journal of Agriculture and Environment for International Development (JAEID), contributing to advancing scholarship in sustainability and development. Beyond that, he serves as the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the African Network for Climate Action. Over the last 10 years, he has led efforts on natural resource management, landscape restoration, wetlands conservation, wildlife management, and sustainable agriculture.
With academic training spanning a Bachelor’s in Natural Resource Management (Karatina University), an MSc in Limnology (Egerton University), and an MA in Women, Children, and Nature Rights in Environmental Governance (University of Nairobi), Kelvin brings a multidisciplinary lens to climate and biodiversity governance. He is actively engaged in international negotiations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). His work has supported the integration of nature-based solutions, indigenous knowledge, and community-driven adaptation strategies into national and international climate policies, including contributions to Kenya’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). He has also collaborated with government agencies, civil society, and international organizations to strengthen policy frameworks for biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable development.
Beyond negotiations, Kelvin is deeply invested in multi-stakeholder processes and capacity-building. He has led projects that empower marginalized communities, particularly women, indigenous peoples, and youth, to implement sustainable climate adaptation strategies. At global forums such as the UNFCCC COPs and CBD COPs, he has consistently advanced the agenda of climate justice, equity, and inclusive governance. His research and advocacy bridge the gap between global frameworks like the Paris Agreement and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and their practical implementation on the ground.
In addition to his leadership at the African Network for Climate Action, Kelvin sits on the Board of Directors of Her Future Foundation, championing the intersection of climate action, gender equity, and youth empowerment. His expertise in community-based adaptation, biodiversity governance, and policy advocacy underscores his commitment to ensuring that climate action is not only ambitious but also just, inclusive, and transformative.
